THE DOMAIN

Unfortunately, little is known about the history of our Château du Vieux Muguet. We are sure that it was built between 1816 and 1826, the dates having been engraved by the two successive architects on the facades of the main building. Over the centuries, the château has been probably destroyed, submerged and rebuilt.
Breteau, our village (indicated as « Berteau » on the old map of the region) was the historic setting for the « Briare Conference », which took place on bringing together the British allies, like Winston Churchill, and the French, like General de Gaulle, among others, to oversee their joint military strategy. The meeting took place in a neighboring Château du Muguet, just a few kilometers from our estate.
Today, our estate consists of three buildings, arranged in the shape of a horseshoe. In the center is « le Château », whose left wing has been named « l’Annexe ». To the left, a large building called the « Relais de chasse », and to the right of the Château, opposite the « Relais de chasse », the large « Salle de réception » with its great terrace.

Encircling by a 5-hectare wooded park, Le Château du Vieux Muguet boasts a wild pond with amphibians, dragonflies, butterflies and birds such as ducks, moorhens, titmice and robins, among other native species.
